Adding a PDF file to your blog post on your Gavamedia website getting you stumped? Follow our step-by-step tutorial to learn how to do it!
Step 1: Log In to Your WordPress Dashboard
To get started, log in to your WordPress dashboard. (Note that your website may have a secured login page, which Gavamedia can provide to you). Enter your username and password to access the admin area.
Step 2: Open or Create a New Blog Post
Once you’re in the dashboard, you have the option to either create a new blog post or edit an existing one. To create a new post, click on the “Posts” menu on the left side, then click “Add New“. If you want to edit an existing post, find it in the “Posts” list and click its title to open it.
Step 3: Add a New Block
To add a PDF file, you need to insert a new block. Click the plus (+) icon to open the block menu.
(If you don’t see the +, you may need to first click where you can type content, and hit enter first.)
Step 4: Select the File Block
In the block menu, type “File” in the search bar, and select the “File” block from the options. This block is specifically designed for adding files such as PDFs to your post.
Step 5: Upload Your PDF File
Once you’ve added the File block, you have two options for adding your PDF:
Upload: Click the “Upload” button to choose a PDF file from your computer.
Media Library: Click “Media Library” to select a PDF file that you’ve already uploaded earlier.
Step 6: Add Additional Content
Feel free to add more content to your blog post around the PDF file. You can insert text, images, videos, and other blocks to create a comprehensive and engaging post.
Step 7: Publish Your Post
If you’re satisfied with how everything looks, it’s time to publish your post. Click the “Publish” button at the top right of the editor. Confirm your choice, and your post, complete with the embedded PDF file, will be live on your website.
Use Sparingly
Now that you know how to add a PDF to your website … DON’T. Or at least use sparingly. Ideally, your blog would consist entirely of normal text and photos, because PDFs can be harder for some people to view. Click here to learn more about why embedding PDFs aren’t always the best approach.
Happy blogging, from Gavamedia!
